Mushroom Mania - A Tour and Tasting
I am excited about this mushroom event on February the 12th, a Sunday, on the weekend after the Super Bowl! Last week I went to "Mushroom Camp", the yearly retreat of SOMA, the Sonoma Mycological Association, with lectures, cooking demonstrations and fabulous food, and, most importantly, the hunt. I am a true novice to mushroom foraging and the diversity of species that grow in the forests around us is astounding. To add to that, because of new DNA information, the names of mushrooms - the Latin names that is that go back to Linneaus and beyond - are disputed, changing and in flux. I still feel as if I will never be able to master that vocabulary. But they say it takes ten years to develop fluency in any field as complex as the world of fungi. That will be many happy years. Please join us for this exciting event!  - Zeno Swijtink
